What an incredible night at Rosman Middle School!

Last night's Academic Showcase was a celebration of all the amazing work our Tigers have put in throughout the year. Families and community members got to see displays showcasing student learning from the year, including art, math, science and literacy projects. Eighth grade students did a great job presenting their Democracy Project presentations on the theme "Young Americans: Your Voice Counts, How Do You Participate in Your Democracy?" There was also a special musical performance from students in Mr. McCanless' class.

Dinner was also provided free of charge, courtesy of GearUp NC Appalachian Partnership.

A huge thank you to our dedicated teachers and staff who made the evening possible, and to the parents and families who came out to cheer on their students.

We are so proud of the creativity, critical thinking, and civic passion our Rosman Middle School students continue to demonstrate. These young people are proof that you are never too young to make a difference.

Rosman Middle School students are working with professional artist Billy Smith, of the Transylvania Community Arts Council, to create an inspiring mural near the cafeteria!

This awesome Tiger mural design was created by students, and RMS teachers helped decide which student design would be displayed on the wall for years to come.

We thank Billy Smith, and Rosman art teachers for continuing to provide students with rich, hands-on learning experiences in the arts.

RMS 8th grade students had an unforgettable experience visiting both Southwestern Community College and Western Carolina University! From hands-on learning and campus tours at SCC to exploring college life at WCU—including the Fine Arts Museum, Mountain Heritage Center, and interactive scavenger hunts—students were fully immersed in what their future could look like.

The day was filled with curiosity, excitement, and meaningful moments as students began to see themselves on a college campus. Experiences like this truly bring postsecondary pathways to life!

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this day possible—we are so proud of our TIGER students and excited for what’s ahead!

Dear Transylvania County Schools community,

Due to icy road conditions in parts of our county and expected low temperatures overnight, Transylvania County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay tomorrow, Friday, February 6. This decision has been made out of an abundance of caution to prioritize the safety of our students and staff.

The delayed start will provide drivers with daylight visibility to safely navigate any remaining slick areas. We believe this is the safest option for our school community.

Please be advised that buses will not run on the following roads, or any secondary roads accessed from these roads, due to hazardous icy conditions:

Little River Campground Rd.

Solomon Jones Rd.

Upper Rich Mountain Rd.

Allen McCall Rd.

Macintosh Rd.

Shelton Rd.

Slick Fisher Rd.

Staton Rd.

McKee Rd.

Dear Transylvania County Schools families and staff,

Due to the significant winter weather our area has experienced this week and last week, we are making an adjustment to our school calendar.

State calendar law limits school systems to only 5 remote learning days per school year, and we have now used our allotted remote learning days due to weather-related closures. To ensure that our students receive the required, in-person instructional time, the planned early release days on Friday, February 13 and Friday, May 1 will now be full instructional days with regular dismissal times.

We recognize that calendar changes may require adjustments to family schedules, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we navigate these weather-related challenges.

If you have questions regarding this schedule change, please contact your school's main office.

Thank you for your continued support of Transylvania County Schools.

Sincerely,

Transylvania County Schools

Dear Transylvania County Schools Parents and Staff,

Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay on Thursday, February 5. We have made this decision out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our staff and students due to icy road conditions that remain in parts of the county.

More precipitation is expected overnight combined with low temperatures. With five roads along our bus routes still closed and the potential for additional hazardous conditions, we believe a delayed start is the safest option for our school community.

Please continue to monitor for updates and stay safe. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility.

Dear Transylvania County Schools families and staff,
TCS will have a Virtual Learning Day tomorrow, Wednesday, February 4, for all students. All school buildings will be closed to students, and students will participate in learning from home.
Our transportation team has continued to assess road conditions throughout the day. Ice and snow remain on roads in several parts of the county, making travel unsafe for students and staff. After checking the roads, our transportation team has determined more than 25 roads on our bus routes to be dangerous for travel.
Thank you for your understanding, and for your help in keeping our school community safe during these winter weather conditions. Please stay safe and warm.

Dear TCS community,

Due to the incoming weather expected to begin around 4:00 p.m., we will dismiss school at 12:30 p.m. today, Friday, January 30. This allows all buses to drop off students and gives drivers time to get home safely before inclement weather begins.

DRS will dismiss at 11:30 a.m. due to shared buses.

All students will be given lunch before dismissal.

Thank you and stay warm.
